A Little Bit of Content:

Tips for small business owners

This week, I want to talk about content that is NOT on social media.

Social media marketing plays a role in our business. But where else should we be creating content?

I don't pretend that social media (especially Instagram) should be the only place we think about when content planning. I partially take that approach because I also don't want to feel like I need to be on social all the time.

Social ends up being a major focus, I think, because when it works, it works really well, but also because for many of us Instagram takes up so much time and energy.

It's not easy showing up on Instagram all the time! I always say that it's like 5 apps in one.

How are we supposed to record video (and edit them), create copy, go into Canva and make images, share behind the scenes etc etc etc. Without feeling overwhelmed?

A content strategy helps determine where to spend your content creation time.

Sure, having a clear plan helps because it takes away the 'what do I post next?' dilemma.

But a good content strategy should also incorporate other content pieces, beyond social media.

What does this look like?

➡️ Non-social content may include:

  • blog posts or website content
  • sales page content
  • podcast or video series.
  • newsletters
  • guest posts and articles on other sites
  • sponsorship of events (and the write ups the event shares about you)
  • a media plan
  • or ads campaign

That's a long list, right?

Social media can't be the only thing we focus on when we talk about content. With a limited amount of time to spend creating content of any sort, having a plan (and knowing what tactics and actions to take) is crucial.

Do you agree?

What are you currently focusing on when it comes to content and creation OTHER THAN social media?

Reply and let me know your concerns or questions about where else to create content, without adding hours and hours to your day!

Ps: I'm launching a 6-week program with two fellow business owners that is going to help small business owners like you create clear messaging, get more confident when showing up online, and learn how to talk more about who you are and what you do (on social and beyond). Does that sound like something you'd love? We are just launching it today with early bird pricing. Check it out here. 💡

The content, marketing, business and life newsletter What if we did things that worked for us in our business instead of what everyone else is doing? It's a bit of a rhetorical question because that's the advice I usually give. Comparing to other businesses and trying to replicate their plan and actions, even if they don't help meet our own goals, is overwhelming and won't necessarily lead to success. You have to do what works for you. For your business and your life. If you can't attend a...

The content, marketing, business and life newsletter I'm going to share something I haven't talked about much. I have been running my freelance business for almost 15 years. I have spoken at many events, meetings, conferences, and workshops - on stage, live in a room, virtually in Zoom. I think I am quite good as a speaker (usually) - educating, informing, and while I love to write, sometimes I feel as though I'm better at communicating if I can just have a conversation. However, after the...
