A Little Bit of Content: Tips for small business owners

Let's look at some quick Instagram Story tips

The nice weather and long weekend means I'm trying to step away from my desk more often this weekend but we will see. Anyone else? I just want to put out my patio furniture!

In the meantime, this week I'm sharing something that comes up over and over again - let me know if you are surprised by any of these tips or are excited to use them!

Instagram Stories: 2 Tips

The first tip: Did you know that when you share a feed post or Reel from an account to your stories, that account won't necessarily get notified or be able to share it to their story? Instead, you may want to TAG or list them in the story mentions.

That way they can see you've shared it, read your comments if there are any, and may choose to share it in their own stories via the 'add to stories' button.

There is at least ONE other way they can see if you share their post and not tag them...which leads us to...

The second tip: If you want to SEE who shared your post and may not have tagged you, you can look at public reshares by going to the post, selecting the three dots, then looking for 'view story reshares'.

This will show you who reshared it within the past 24 hours only (and only if they have a public account.) This is helpful if you find a post is gaining momentum and want to see if shares seem to be helping or if you want to have a further conversation.

That's it - two simple things you may not have known about for stories.

I'm now off to eat some chocolate. Reply to this email to let me know if you have questions about Instagram Stories OR what your fave chocolate is ;)

The content, marketing, business and life newsletter What if we did things that worked for us in our business instead of what everyone else is doing? It's a bit of a rhetorical question because that's the advice I usually give. Comparing to other businesses and trying to replicate their plan and actions, even if they don't help meet our own goals, is overwhelming and won't necessarily lead to success. You have to do what works for you. For your business and your life. If you can't attend a...

The content, marketing, business and life newsletter I'm going to share something I haven't talked about much. I have been running my freelance business for almost 15 years. I have spoken at many events, meetings, conferences, and workshops - on stage, live in a room, virtually in Zoom. I think I am quite good as a speaker (usually) - educating, informing, and while I love to write, sometimes I feel as though I'm better at communicating if I can just have a conversation. However, after the...

A Little Bit of Content: Tips for small business owners ↓ Let's chat about the time when I almost lost out on a bunch of income because people didn't know what I did for my business (spoiler - I wasn't good at talking about it!) "I didn't know you could help with this" I still remember those words and it was almost a decard ago. A small business owner was looking to outsource social media - at the time, Instagram was still fairly new, but Facebook was a big deal. They knew they wanted support...
