Content planning with intention and ease

my short answer to this ❓is YES

Published 3 months ago • 2 min read

Does anyone blog anymore? Is there even a point?

That's probably one of most common question about blogging I get when I'm a guest on a podcast or I'm chatting with people about business and blogging.

The short, simple answer to whether or not blogs have value is, YES! Blogs are still relevant and being used by business owners! There are many reasons why it's important to have a blog and post content. And it's never too late to start one.

Why blog?

Blogging offers you the chance to create longer form content, position yourself as an expert or thought leader or share your story. From there you can break that content into reusable pieces across social media, in future blog posts, videos, newsletters and more. This saves you time and helps with consistency.

I recently shared an Instagram post about this topic (you can scroll here for some more info about why blogs are valuable) but I wanted to highlight one major reason:

We are creating TOO MUCH content. Instead, we should focus on creating less that does more work for us.

Having one piece of long form content and turning it into multiple pieces elsewhere to save you time and the stress from worrying about what to post next, should be a major part of your content plan and strategy.

Although I use blog posts as an example of long form content, you can replace that with videos or podcasts or even newsletters if that's where you are spending your writing time. If you do use podcasts or videos, you can transcribe them into blog posts! If your main form of communication is a newsletter, those can also become blog posts or be expanded on and supported by further blog posts.

If you are an influencer, or share a lot of your stories on social media, a blog offers you a place to anchor all of that content - and let's be real, you don't own your social media account. What happens if it disappeared over night? (Sorry, I know it's scary but we have to think about these things!)

Business owners - maybe you aren't seeing the benefit yet for your products or service. But remember, blogging will give you the opportunity to position your products or services in a new way. A fresh post gives your audience a reason to return to your website, and blogs help you share your expertise.

There are many benefits to blogging and I am always a fan of encouraging people to make a plan to start one or revive their blog if it's been a while.

Not sure what your next post should be about? Here are three prompts to help get you started:

  • One thing you didn't know about me or my business
  • 3 tools or apps I use that you may love too
  • 5 ways this product can be use/beneficial/styled

Hit the reply button and let me know if you are going to give your blog some more love (or maybe you're ready to start one!) Not sure what to write about? I'll send you a prompt!

Until next time!

~Rebecca

P.S: I have limited availability for my VIP Done-for-You Quarterly content package. If you want to get blog posts written with you and turned into multiple posts, I can help! Find out more here.

The content, marketing, business and life newsletter What if we did things that worked for us in our business instead of what everyone else is doing? It's a bit of a rhetorical question because that's the advice I usually give. Comparing to other businesses and trying to replicate their plan and actions, even if they don't help meet our own goals, is overwhelming and won't necessarily lead to success. You have to do what works for you. For your business and your life. If you can't attend a...

The content, marketing, business and life newsletter I'm going to share something I haven't talked about much. I have been running my freelance business for almost 15 years. I have spoken at many events, meetings, conferences, and workshops - on stage, live in a room, virtually in Zoom. I think I am quite good as a speaker (usually) - educating, informing, and while I love to write, sometimes I feel as though I'm better at communicating if I can just have a conversation. However, after the...
